  8. optimize system performance by using a three step process. The first step is to
  9. determine which system resource is a performance bottleneck (CPU, disk, memory,
  10. network). Step two is to determine which process or group of processes use this
  11. resource heavily. Step three is to identify the part(s) within the process that
  12. force the heavy load. Once this is known, adequate action can be taken to
  13. improve performance.

  16. process level; CPU, memory, disk usage analysis at system level; CPU usage
  17. analysis at process and process subfunction level; analysis of CPU load
  18. balancing over multiple CPUs; disk I/O analysis at process and disk division
  19. level; memory consumption and swapping frequency analysis at process level;
  20. network response time analysis at physical connection and process level; all
  21. tools support analysis of multiprocessor SCO MPX-based systems
